Wiper/Washer Systems: Description
The 2-speed intermittent windshield wiper/washers are standard equipment. The intermittent function of the wiper system provides an adjustable pause between wipe cycles for use in light precipitation. The intermittent wiper/washer circuit consists of 4 main components: wiper switch, wiper module, wiper motor and washer pump.
The wiper switch, module and washer switch receive power from circuit breaker No. 24, when ignition switch is in RUN or ACC position. When the wiper switch is in HI position, current flows from the fuse block through the wiper switch to wiper motor HI speed brushes. When the wiper switch is in INT (intermittent) position, current flows from the fuse block through the wiper switch to the wiper module.
The timer in the wiper module momentarily applies battery voltage to wiper motor LO speed brushes to complete a cycle. The time between wipes is controlled by a rheostat in the wiper switch. The wiper motor incorporates a park/wipe switch, which provides battery voltage to wiper module when wiper switch is moved to OFF position so existing wipe cycle can be completed.
