Steering Column Control Module (SCCM)

REMOVAL

  1. Place the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and inhibit the steering column shaft from rotating.
  2. Lower the steering column to its lowest position.
NOTE: If the Steering Column Control Module SCCM is to be reused, be certain that the spring-activated clockspring lock has extended upward following steering wheel removal to lock the clockspring rotor and maintain clockspring centering until the steering wheel is installed on the steering column. Do not manually compress the clockspring lock while the SCCM is removed from the steering column as this may result in the loss of clockspring centering. If clockspring centering is not maintained, the SCCM must be replaced with a new unit before the steering wheel is installed.
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the steering column upper shroud. Refer to UPPER SHROUD  .
  5. Remove the SCCM bracket screws and position the bracket away from the SCCM.
