Update Engine Control Module (ECM) Software
This Recall Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Freightliner Sprinter vehicles, has determined that in the event of a Mass Air Flow (MAF) adaptation error, the vehicle's Check Engine Light (CEL) might not illuminate, and the corresponding fault code will not be stored in the ECU as required by law. To remedy this issue, an authorized Freightliner Dealer will update the ECU software.
The authorized Freightliner Sprinter service facilities will provide the owner for each vehicle a certificate (attached) which indicates that the vehicle has been corrected under the recall program. A proof of correction label (sample attached) must be applied to vehicles receiving the ECU software update.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 342 vehicles are involved.
