Input Shaft: Disassembly
NOTE:
If input shaft splines or pilot bearing is damaged, input shaft can be replaced separately. This condition will not require complete transmission disassemble. If input shaft is damaged behind seal, transmission must be disassembled and inspected.
- Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove drain plug and drain transmission fluid. Remove transmission from vehicle. Measure end play on output shaft before disassemble. Record this number.
- Remove clutch slave cylinder from transmission adapter plate. Remove front adapter plate bolts. See Fig 1 . Pry front cover adapter loose. Hold input shaft while sliding front adapter off. See Fig 2 .
- Carefully remove seal from transmission adapter. Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces for wear or damage. Lift cluster shaft slightly and remove input shaft from transmission. See Fig 3 .
