Voltmeter Does Not Operate Properly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Note vehicle voltmeter reading. Connect a test voltmeter between positive and negative terminals at battery. Compare vehicle voltmeter and test voltmeter readings. If readings do not match, go to next step. If readings match, vehicle voltmeter is okay.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test voltmeter between instrument cluster connector terminals "K" (Pink wire) and "A" (Black wire).
  3. If test voltmeter reading is not consistent with vehicle voltmeter reading, replace instrument cluster. If test voltmeter and vehicle voltmeter readings match, check Pink wire and Black wire for high resistance. Repair or replace as necessary.
