- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. On 2.3L, disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Pink connector located behind right side of dash. On 3.1L, disconnect Electronic Ignition (EI) module connector located on top right rear of engine, near alternator. Connect Gauge Tester Harness Connector (J-33431-10) between Gauge Tester (J-33431) and PCM Pink connector terminal B11 (White wire) on 2.3L or EI module connector terminal "C" (White wire) on 3.1L.
- Set tester frequency signal switch to 60 Hz and 54 MPH. Turn power switch to ON position and ignition switch to RUN position. Observe tachometer. If tachometer indicates 1800 RPM (2.3L) or 1350 RPM (3.1L), check for clean, tight connections on PCM (2.3L) or EI module (3.1L). If connections are okay, replace PCM (2.3L) or EI module (3.1L).
- If tachometer does not operate as specified, check for open or short to ground in White wire. If White wire is okay, replace instrument cluster.
