Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, on hood release bracket. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Body Control Module (BCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, IPC and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, IPC and PCM, perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs functions for BCM, IPC and PCM. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair lighting system as necessary. See HEADLIGHTS - AUTOMATIC TWILIGHT SENTINEL - ELDORADO article.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with "U", perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1552, B1556, B1558 or B1981, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1552, B1556, B1558 or B1981, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  6. If scan tool does not display DTC B1557, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1557, repair instrument panel as necessary. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - ELDORADO article.
  7. If scan tool does not display DTCs P1820, P1822, P1823 or P1825, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs P1820, P1822, P1823 or P1825, repair automatic transmission as necessary. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  8. If scan tool displays DTCs B1982, B1983, B1910 or B1911, repair charging system as necessary. See GENERATOR & REGULATORS - ELDORADO article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1982, B1983, B1910 or B1911, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
