Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a pulse generator mounted in transaxle. See Fig 1 . A toothed reluctor ring rotates near a magnetic pickup producing a varying voltage signal in pickup coil. This voltage signal is proportional to vehicle speed and is sent to PCM to indicate how fast vehicle is being driven. The PCM uses this signal for logic required to operate fuel economy data panel, integral cruise control, idle speed control system, VCC, and to modify fuel delivery under certain conditions.
A speed sensor or circuit which is not functioning properly will set a code E024.
