Section 7 (Differential - Positive Traction): Testing

  1. Place transmission in Park. Raise rear of vehicle until both wheels are off ground. Remove rear wheel. Attach Adapter (J-2619-01 ) to axle shaft flange. Install 1/2" coarse-thread bolt into adapter. Attach torque wrench to adapter.
  2. Measure torque required to rotate opposite wheel assembly. The reading should be 125-225 ft. lbs. (169-305 N.m). Lower vehicle so that one wheel is on ground. Place transmission in Neutral.
  3. Check torque to rotate remaining wheel. Reading should be 45-110 ft. lbs. (61-149 N.m). Replace differential assembly if not within specifications.
