Removal And Installation
NOTE:
Before removing and installing the airbag module the following preliminary operations must be carried out.
- Position the vehicle with the front wheels straight.
- Turn the ignition key to the Off position and extract it.
- FOLLOW ALL THE PRESCRIBED SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. Refer to WARNING .
- Remove the trim from the inside of the door. Refer to PANEL, DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the electrical connection (1) for the side bag module.
- Remove the mounting (2a) and remove the side bag module from the door (2b).
NOTE:
Observe the following precautions:
- Handle the airbag module very carefully.
- Make sure that the battery is disconnected.
- If a new module is being installed, position the labels. Remove the detachable part of the adhesive label from the new module and place it in a dedicated folder containing the vehicle details (model, registration date, chassis number) and the serial number of the old module.
- The folder must be kept for any checks necessary.
- A new adhesive plate comes with the module and should be stuck on top of the existing one.
- Position the side airbag module (2b) in its housing and tighten the mounting screws (2a). Tighten the screws securely.
- Connect the electrical connection (1) for the airbag module.
- Reinstall the trim onto the inside of the door. Refer to PANEL, DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Use a diagnostic scan tool to check that the system has not acquired errors during the operation.
